After crossing the Madison River, this magnificent bull elk was in the rut and was looking for love with the 3 cow elk that were on this side of the river and grazing to left of my position. I was behind a large log, that was laying on the bank, and gave me protection in case the bull decided that I was a threat to his future success with the 3 ladies. Actually you want to be very careful in situations like this as these are 800- 1000lb animals that are not looking for love with a human. Never place yourself in a dangerous situation with animals like this to get a picture. It is not only dangerous for you but also stressful for the animal.
